These Staircases Are The Products Of Major Design Fails
Stairs are supposed to be simple, right? All they need to do is get you from up to down or from down to up. They should be easy to construct.
We're not sure where all of these designers went so wrong...
An Accident Waiting To Happen
These stairs lead from a garage into a basement.
You just know that somebody carrying a big heavy box downstairs is going to trip over that last wonky step. Do better.
A Stairway To Nowhere
Why are there two railings on this single staircase? Why does one staircase lead to nowhere?
We have so many questions and so few answers. This just doesn't make any sense.
Carpeted Steps Outside A Shower?
Who in their right mind would put carpet anywhere near a shower? This is an invitation for mold.
No health inspector or building code would approve of this colossal monstrosity.
Caution: Uneven Surfaces
This staircase is so poorly designed that the manager of this building had to come out and install a caution sign.
That's how many people tripped over that last step.
Saving Space
If you live in a tiny house, this space-saving stairs hack might not be such a bad idea.
If you live in a normal-sized house, though, don't risk breaking your neck to have cool-looking stairs.
That Didn't Work
This attempt at advertising was not successful.
Maybe you have to look at this from the right angle, but as far as we can tell, no angle can turn this wrong into a right.
These Stairs Are Causing An Anxiety Flare-Up
If you feel dizzy looking at this staircase, you are not alone.
These stairs would make anybody who isn't a mountain goat feel anxious. I think it's time for a remodel.
Steep As Heck
We're not sure that these very narrow and very steep steps even count as a staircase.
Basically, if you see stairs that look like this, you should not attempt to climb them.
A Real Workout
There are only four steps involved in this little staircase, but don't let that fool you. This whole situation is quite misleading.
The lack of railing and the hight of those steps make for a killer combination.
Just Block The Whole Thing, Why Don't You?
This staircase is located in a college building, but whoever designed the staircase obviously did not go to college.
Nobody with a legitimate college degree would design something this stupid.
Who Is This For?
Honestly, what is the purpose of this little staircase and ramp situation? The only thing that comes to mind is that this is a slide for the neighborhood squirrels.
Cats could use it as a slide too, probably.
Watch Your Head
This is not an abnormally large man. This man is of average height. It's the stairs that are the problem.
The stairs need to do better. This is an accident waiting to happen.
Nice In Theory...
This glowing red staircase situation is a nice idea, in theory. But it's a horrible idea in practice.
Imagine walking down these stairs in the morning when you're still kind of groggy.
Zig Zag On Outta Here
These steps look like some kind of modern art installation. As far as we're concerned, modern art should stay in the art gallery where it belongs.
This doesn't look safe.
This Makes No Sense
One staircase leads to a closed fence, one ramp leads to a step, and one staircase leads to a ramp.
If you actually need to use a ramp, there is no accessible path here for you.
No Railing, Lots Of Problems
These "stairs" (if you can even call them that) look scary enough, but the fact that there's no railing here is really freaking us out.
This is just not okay.
A Concrete Slab
So we're calling this jagged slab of concrete a staircase now? Something just doesn't seem right about that.
Nobody should ever climb up this thing if they value their own life.
A Hop, Skip, And A Jump
If you want to get from the bedroom to the hallway or from the hallway to the bedroom, you're going to have to do a hop, skip, and a jump over that staircase.
Hope you're feeling athletic!
That's Not A Staircase
So even though this looks like a staircase, it's not actually a staircase. It's actually a water fountain. There's water running down those steps.
Many people have mistaken this fountain for steps and slipped and fell right into the water.
The Wrong Carpet
This is definitely the wrong carpet to use on steps of any kind. Yes, there are actually steps in this photo.
This unfortunate staircase is located inside a movie theater.
Do You Want To Play A Game?
This staircase looks like something out of a horror movie.
Seriously, you're taking a gamble with your life every time you go up or down this thing. It's pretty scary.
Too Confusing
That last step is not actually a step. It just looks like a step because of that row of black tiles.
Somebody did this on purpose, right? This has to be a joke...
A Dead End
Why is there a staircase in this hotel that leads to a dead end?
Maybe these stairs did lead to something at one point in time, but now they just lead to a blank wall.
How Is This Wheelchair-Friendly?
The yellow lines on the edges of those steps aren't actually helpful. What would be helpful would be if this was an actual ramp instead of a staircase.
How is this wheelchair-accessible?
Fashion Over Function
These wooden steps look very nice, but they also look very dangerous. Whoever designed these steps clearly thinks that staircases are just for show.
Who would climb a staircase when you can just look at it?
A Sharp Drop
If you've ever felt like walking out of your second-floor balcony, descending a few steps, and then promptly falling and breaking your leg, we have some good news.
These are the staircases for you.
Who Designed This?
These stairs make literally no sense. There is no way to get from the first flight of stairs to the second flight.
These are stairs for nobody. Go home, stairs, you're drunk.
Another Bad Carpet Situation
Speaking of drunk, imagine trying to walk down these steps after you've had a few beers.
The stairs might be well-constructed, but the awful carpet selection is ruining everything.
Back And Blue
Hey, do these stairs look familiar? They might just be the blue cousins of that red flight of stairs we saw earlier.
The change of color didn't solve the problem.
Careful On The Carpet
Yes, there actually are stairs in this picture. You can't see them because the carpet makes it look like this is a flat floor.
How many people have fallen down these stairs, do you think?
Try Leaving The Movie Theatre On These Steps
As if it isn't hard enough already to walk down the stairs at a movie theatre, this cinema went and made them all the same wood tones.
We only have one question: why?
What's So Dangerous About That Side?
It makes sense to block off access to stairs if they're dangerous, but why bother only doing half?
What makes the right side so much more dangerous than the left?
I Honestly Don't Understand These Stairs
I've been staring (or should I say, "stairing") at these for five minutes and they still don't make sense.
This double staircase is seriously melting our brains. It's like a real optical illusion.
Just Incase You Need Some Height
These might be considered stairs to nowhere.
But they're perfect if you're in the middle of an argument and need a few feet of height to seem a bit more intimidating.
Choose Your Path
The fun part of this would be getting to choose, spur of the moment, whether you climb the stairs up this hill or not.
It makes absolutely no difference but you need to find joy in the small things.
You Must Work For Your Free Ride
This is simply a test of your desire to take the escalator.
Only once you give in and walk up the five steps and realized you could have walked all the way upstairs, then do you get your free ride.
What Is Up With These Dumb Movie Theatres?
I'll take the disappearing wood stairs over a set of stairs that go right down the middle of the theatre.
This means you can't get a prime middle seat AND you can't sneak out.
Apparently This Is To Make The Ramp Up To Code
According to a comment on Reddit, most building codes require handrails to extend to a certain point so this rail is to keep the ramp up to code.
It still looks dumb.
Slip Or Die
Apparently, these little sharp squares are to prevent people from sliding down the rails.
But they seem like more of a hazard than anything else If you trip and try to grab the rail, then you might just stab your hand.
And The Award For Laziest Stair-Maker Goes To...
Every single step is a different size. This is basically asking for an injury.
Whoever carved out these steps must have had a serious grudge. Only the strong can survive these stairs.
Inclined Driveway With Stairs.
It's unclear whether the stairs make the hike up easier or harder.
Rather than simply dragging your feet one after the other, the stairs require you to actually lift your whole leg up to climb them, so I vote no stairs.
Taking The Hairs To The Second Floor
First off, how do you keep these stairs clean? Do you need to shampoo and deep-condition?
Second, wouldn't that make them too slippery to climb up? I have a lot of questions...
Stairs: 1, Human: 0
Ironically, the stairs were built by a human, so this a double-loss on the scoreboard.
One for not being able to open the cupboard against the stairs and one for even having built the cupboard in that spot.
Go Down At Your Own Risk
Imagine the poor person who had to line up that carpet so the lines fit exactly underneath each other and the kind of headache they must have gotten from looking at what might as well be an optical illusion for that long.
Rest in peace.
"Camouflage 101"
Maybe they ran out of carpeting for just the last step of the stairs, or maybe they forgot about it.
But how many injuries is it going to take from missing that last step before they finally add one more layer of carpet?
"The Stairs To My Hopes And Dreams"
These stairs lead the way to a place we're all way too familiar with...it goes by the name of "disappointment."
The closer you get to it, the more it feels like life's life closing in on you, just like the ceiling.
Livin' On The Edge
This staircase teaches you that if you want to make your way up, you must earn it.
In this case, you must climb the mini fence, getting poked in all sorts of places along the way just to go up eight simple steps anytime you wish to enter your home.
The Forgotten One
From the way the bricks are dented and discolored, it looks like this staircase has long been forgotten.
Yet it still leads somewhere, so why can't people take it without having to climb around it?
Making Do With What's Available
Obviously, someone miscalculated. They were a whole five steps short of a full staircase.
They ended up completely changing up the design and maybe just hoping no one would notice. They could have at least painted them to match...
Extra Rails For Decoration
What is the point of the left side of the stairs? No one knows.
It seems to be more of a stylistic choice or another miscalculation, because realistically, why would anyone bother squeezing themselves through the left side?
