Hilarious Ways People Are Handling Quarantine Boredom
It's not easy to remain isolated at home all day. That's why some people are taking to hilarious tactics to keep themselves entertained while in quarantine. If you thought talking to your pets was crazy, wait until you see a man conducting a class for his cats. Bored drawing pictures? Try making artwork out of eggs! From decorating the house with post-its to feeding virtual birds, these are some of the most humorous things people did while social distancing.
Stripping Down A Laptop To Rebuild It
These ladies became so tired of having nothing productive to do, that they decided to create a difficult task for themselves. Using a toolset, they took apart a laptop just to put it back together again.
While the chore may seem outlandish to some, we would argue that this activity is a great way to become in touch with the technical world. Now they'll come out of quarantine with a skillset that could come in handy.
Decorating The House With Post-Its
We would venture to guess that these homeowners have a deep love for Pac-Man. The quarantiners used post-its to create a window display that emulates the game. Complete with a Pac-Man and ghosts, the mural reads, "Keep Calm Om Nom."
The project is not only a hilarious way to pass the time, but it also has a sweet purpose. Neighbors walking by can look at the house and feel nostalgic and lighthearted despite the circumstances.
Conducting A Cat Class
This man decided to use some of his spare time to have a sitdown with the cats. Using a drawing of a house, he is attempting to explain to the felines what is going on with the quarantine.
If we didn't know better, we would think these cats actually speak English. They all seem to be giving the man their full attention as though they were a part of a classroom or a board meeting.
Going On A Pretend Vacation
With all of the toilet paper hoarding that went on early into the quarantine, it's no wonder this man had enough rolls to create the Taj Mahal. He used a few pieces of kitchenware to complete the building's design.
To further embellish the look, the man created a body of water lined with trees out of paper. The best part is that he's holding a map and looking in the wrong direction like a confused tourist.
Dressing Like An Amazon Package
It's easy to recognize the Amazon package through its smile-shaped arrow. This Facebook user added eyes to the box to complete the smiley face. She then cut four holes that would fit both of her arms and legs.
Perhaps the most humorous part of this makeshift costume is that you have to bend down on all fours to wear it. We can't imagine that it's very comfortable holding that position, but at least it's entertaining!
Walking On Walls
This boy was so bored that he developed the ability to defy gravity! With today's technology, pictures can be more misleading than ever. In all seriousness, the creator of this image probably pulled it off by layering different photos and doing other graphic design tricks in Photoshop.
So, this boy didn't actually learn how to walk on walls out of quarantine boredom. He did at least pass the time learning how to make himself look like he's levitating.
Creating A Masterful Etch-A-Sketch
Etch-A-Sketch is a beloved childhood toy that gives many of us a heaping dose of nostalgia. This person clearly got back in touch with their inner child over quarantine. They took the time to create a detailed sketch of an urban city on an Etch-A-Sketch.
We wonder how many times the artist had to go back over the same lines, or shake the toy and start all over due to a mistake. It goes to show, sometimes having an excessive amount of time on your hands brings out the artist within.
Making Art Out Of Eggs
Eggs are a wonderful breakfast food, but there's isn't always time to make them when running out the door in the morning. While in quarantine, though, you can take all the time in the world making eggs, and can even turn them into a work of art.
This Twitter user put a twist on the ordinary egg breakfast by making them into detailed pictures! It seems the key is keeping the egg whites separate from the yoke and using them like different colors of paint.
Feeding Virtual Birds
There's nothing like interacting with nature and wildlife. This Reddit user missed the simple act of feeding the birds so much, that he decided to emulate the activity while remaining inside.
To do it, he dug up a video of pigeons eating crumbs and displayed it on his television. He then proceeded to throw small bits of bread onto the counter below the TV screen. the optical illusion is a bit of a stretch, but it's better than nothing.
Throwing A"Me" Party
For extroverts, not being able to surround themselves with others is one of the hardest parts of quarantine. This Reddit user dealt with that difficulty by creating a party with himself.
He did it by taking photographs of himself doing various activities all around his living room. He then layered all of the pictures so that he appears to be lifting weights, playing instruments, having a conversation, lounging on the couch and floor, and working on his laptop all at the same time.
Pretending To Run A Restaurant
Social media influencer Mia Finney showed her followers how she and her father have been passing time in quarantine. To give the illusion of dining out, her father has been dressing up like he works at places like McDonald's and Starbucks.
Meanwhile, Mia pretends to be the customer, sipping on a reusable Starbucks cup or a red Solo cup with a yellow "M" on it. The endearing father-daughter game is both hilarious and heartwarming.
Dressing Up The Dog
If taking your time getting dressed doesn't take up enough of your day while in quarantine, why not move on to your dog? That's what this Instagram user did when they layered their Newfoundland in accessories.
Complete with a scarf, bandana, earrings, a necklace, and a hair jewel, this dog looks like its headed to a bohemian festival. The canine must have a high tolerance to remain still while their owner layered them up. Then again, maybe the pet was just as bored as his owner.
Playing Dressup
As an essential worker, this postman didn't need to remain inside through quarantine. Since he felt bad for those who couldn't go outside, he decided to dress up in an attempt to brighten the mood.
Traveling from house to house in different costumes, the postman cheered up residents as they peeked out the window to see what he was wearing. Here he is posing in a cheerleader dress over khaki pants and a long-sleeve. That's one way to keep a positive attitude.
Creating A Pringles Rainbow
If it weren't for this man growing bored in quarantine, we may never have known that you can make a rainbow out of Pringles containers. The individual-sized Pringles come in small, plastic packages that are shaped slightly more narrow at the bottom than they are at the top.
We have to wonder if the man was playing with the containers like toy blocks when he discovered how to make a rainbow with them. Regardless, it's pretty incredible that they were just the right size and shape to make the arch.
Deseeding A Strawberry
While many people like to cut the leaves off of strawberries before consuming them, we've never heard of someone removing the seeds! This bored Reddit user used tweezers to individually remove each tiny seed from the skin of a strawberry.
We'd imagine that after spending that much time and care on a single strawberry, it would be hard to eat it! Hopefully, they put those seeds to good use and took up harvesting strawberries to pass more isolation time.
Advertising Your Stares
This man was so fed up with isolating that he sat on his doorstep with a "Free Stares" sign. It looks like a quarantine-friendly version of the "Free Hugs" sign that was popular a few years ago.
Social isolation makes human interaction limited, and therefore all the more important. While his sign is hilarious as a joke, there may also be some sincerity in it. In quarantine times, the gaze of a stranger can be a welcome relief.
Styling Her Boyfriend's Hair
One Reddit user had to take a break from her job as a hairstylist during quarantine. To keep her skills sharp and pass some spare time, she committed to doing her boyfriend's hair each day.
Luckily, her boyfriend has long hair so she could do elaborate styles. An updo fit for Prom, a Cindy Loo-Who hairstyle, and a pompadour are just a few of the looks that the stylist tried on her boyfriend. We sincerely hope he kept the hairdo all day.
Making Yoda Pancakes
Making specially shaped pancakes is nothing new. You'd typically expect to find simple designs like Mickey Mouse or a smiley face. This Reddit user was so bored that they went above and beyond with their pancake, doing it in the shape of Yoda.
The skilled pancake-maker used grill marks to add detail so that not only the shape, but the pancake itself, resembles the Star Wars character. If we had accomplished such an achievement, we wouldn't eat the pancake. We'd frame it.
Making TV Characters Out Of Paper
A great way to pass the time while stuck at home is to work on intricate art projects. This Reddit user did just that. She must be a fan of the show The Office because she recreated all of the characters out of paper.
The tiny paper figures look like caricatures of the actors on the show. Whether you're a fan of the series or haven't ever seen an episode, it's clear that the artist put quite a bit of time into these characters.
Pretending To Ride Public Transport
In heavily-populated areas like New York, public transportation is a part of everyday life. Though traveling on a subway isn't the most exhilarating part of the day, some quarantiners have come to long for the average activity.
We presume that's what drove this man to use his shower rod to mimic the act of holding a rail on a subway or bus. He even has sunglasses on as though he isn't inside a windowless bathroom.
