Elton John’s Eccentric Style Derived From A Dare
Musical artist and pop icon Elton John has a trademark style that's eccentric, to say the least. A mix of colors and patterns paired with bold accessories, many of John's daring ensembles have gone down in history. But his style wasn't always that way. In the 60s and early 70s, John's style was pretty average-- well dressed with a pop of personality here or there. But nothing like we know John's style today. As it turns out, John's flashy style initially started out as a dare.
In 1973, John was getting ready to go on stage. Maxine Fiebelman, who worked in wardrobe for the band, jokingly pulled out a pair of mauve tights and showed them to John. "I bet you wouldn't wear them on stage..." she taunted John. Surprisingly willing to take her up on the bet, John put the tights on and went on stage to perform.
The reaction that his outfit got from the crowd was something he would never forget. Wearing the tights, John felt added energy performing that day, stepping into a new persona. After that show, he never looked back, taking on wild style that we have come to expect from the iconic musical artist.
